Sanjana Galrani Actress and Philanthropist decided to take a proactive measure to protect the women in the Kannada entertainment industry, by proposing the Sandalwood Women Artist Association (SWAA).
The aftermath of the Kerala hashtag #metoo movement in the Malayalam movie industry spurred her to realise that it’s time to protect the silenced ones.
Today, meeting honorable Home Minister, Parameshwara, and Chief Minister of Karnataka, Siddaramaiah, and spoke to them about why SWAA is necessary. SWAA hopes to protect the reputation and integrity of the women in the Kannada Film Industry.
She also presented a memorandum with a vision to establish a new association dedicated to uplifting our community.
Here are some of the key initiatives:
- The new and existing women artists will be required to undergo training on their rights, workplace safety, and conflict resolution.
- Experienced women artists will mentor younger members, providing guidance and support.
- SWAA will work with production houses to ensure that women have safe working conditions, including appropriate accommodations and transportation.
- Advocate for policy changes and industry standards that promote gender equality and prevent harassment.
Hope to have the support from the Kannada Film Chamber of Commerce, Producers Association, Directors Association, Technicians Association, and Artist Association to make this a reality.
